What are the characteristics of sealing strips made of different rubber materials?
2024-08-02
There are many rubber products in our lives, and sealing strips are a very common one. They are widely used in various industries such as automobiles, doors and windows, cabinets, refrigerators, containers, etc. Rubber sealing strips can solve the problems of air leakage, water leakage, gas leakage, oil leakage. And other problems.
So what are the differences between different rubber materials? What are the different characteristics of rubber sealing strips? Let's introduce them one by one below.
Nitrile rubber sealing strips: The applicable temperature is -30 ~ 120 ℃; the characteristics are oil resistance and solvent resistance, but not resistant to media such as ketones, esters and chlorinated hydrocarbons, and have good elasticity and mechanical properties.
The disadvantage is that it is easy to age and crack in ozone and oxidation, and has poor cold resistance and low temperature resistance.
Nitrile rubber can also be used to make O-rings, oil seals, leather cups, diaphragms, valves, bellows hoses, rubber rollers, sealing gaskets, tank linings, aircraft tank linings, large oil bladders, and transportation systems in contact with oil. Oil-resistant rubber products such as belts and brackets are not suitable for machinery using phosphate ester hydraulic oil. It is also used to make rubber sheets and wear-resistant parts.
Fluororubber sealing strip: Applicable temperature is -65 ~ 250 ℃; It is characterized by heat resistance, oil resistance, aging resistance, and corrosion resistance, and its stability is better than other rubbers with strong corrosive media such as concentrated sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, hydrogen peroxide, concentrated alkali, etc.
The disadvantages are poor low temperature performance and poor radiation resistance.
Fluororubber can also be used to make cylinder liner seals, rubber bowls and rotary lip seals, U-shaped rings, and sealing strips.
Chloroprene rubber sealing strip: Applicable temperature is -55 ~ 120 ℃; It has excellent weather resistance, ozone resistance, heat aging resistance, oil resistance, and solvent resistance. It also has good corrosion resistance to inorganic acids, suitable for dilute acids, silicone-based lubricants, dichlorodifluoromethane, ammonia and other refrigerants, but not resistant to aromatic oils.
The disadvantages are poor storage stability, hardening during storage, and poor cold resistance.
Neoprene is usually used to manufacture sealing parts of aircraft, automobiles, trains, buses, ships, high and low voltage switch cabinets, glass curtain walls, aluminum alloy insulation windows and diving products, high pressure steam hoses, tunnels, viaduct joints and other waterproof parts and other industrial and agricultural sealing parts.
Natural rubber sealing strip: The applicable temperature is -50 ~ 120 ℃; it has the characteristics of high strength, high elasticity, good low temperature performance, and small permanent deformation.
The disadvantages are poor high temperature performance, poor oil resistance, and easy aging in the air.
Natural rubber can be used to produce brake cups and rubber rings for automobile braking systems, rubber cups or sealing strips used as seals in braking systems, gaskets, high vacuum sealing rings, etc.
Styrene-butadiene rubber sealing strip: The applicable temperature is -30 ~ 120 ℃; it is characterized by resistance to animal and vegetable oils, large expansion to general mineral oils, strong aging resistance, and better wear resistance than natural rubber sealing strips.
The disadvantages are that its ozone resistance is worse than other rubber materials, poor low temperature performance, and low elasticity.
Styrene-butadiene rubber can be used to make tires, tapes, hoses, conveyor belts, wires and cables, medical equipment and various rubber products
Silicone rubber sealing strip: Applicable temperature is -100 ~ 300 ℃; It has outstanding high and low temperature resistance, ozone resistance, weathering and aging resistance, excellent hydrophobicity and air permeability.
The disadvantages are poor cold resistance, low tear strength and poor oil resistance.
Silicone rubber is suitable for making sealing gaskets required in thermal mechanisms, such as strong light source lampshade sealing gaskets, valve gaskets, hoses, insulating seals, electronic buttons, various medical accessories, etc. Since silicone rubber is not oil-resistant, it is not suitable for making oil-resistant sealing products.
EPDM rubber sealing strip: Applicable temperature is -50 ~ 150 ℃; It is characterized by ozone resistance, heat and cold resistance, aging resistance, good wear resistance, excellent resilience, excellent resistance to permanent deformation, and resistance to chemicals (such as alcohol, acid, strong alkali, oxidant), but it is not resistant to general mineral oil-based lubricants and hydraulic oils.
The disadvantages are single color, low processing efficiency, strong odor, and waste cannot be recycled.
EPDM rubber can be used to make sealing products such as steam-resistant diaphragms, auto parts, heat-resistant hoses, building materials, wire and cable sheaths. Sealing strips have been widely used in washing machines, TV accessories, and door and window sealing products.
Polyurethane rubber sealing strips, applicable temperature range -60 ~ 80 ℃. It is characterized by good elasticity and excellent wear resistance, good oil resistance, superior mechanical properties, excellent cold resistance and chemical resistance, and can meet the requirements of various colors.
The disadvantages are average temperature resistance, not resistant to strong polar solvents and strong acid and alkali media, and poor water resistance. Long-term exposure to water will hydrolyze.
Polyurethane rubber is suitable for the manufacture of high-frequency brake buffer components, various anti-vibration rubber parts, rubber springs, couplings, textile machinery parts; in oil-resistant products, it can be used to manufacture printing rollers, seals, fuel containers, oil seals, etc.;
